Bamboo is a fast and easy to grow renewable material that does not require chemicals or pesticides. It can be grown throughout the world and has extensive uses both internally and externally.
Incredible Tensile Strength: Structurally, bamboo’s hollow, tubular design gives it a higher tensile strength (resistance to being pulled apart) than steel, and a compressive strength (resistance to crushing) that rivals concrete.
Hyper-Rapid Regeneration: While a traditional timber tree takes 20 to 50 years to mature, bamboo is a grass that reaches full structural maturity in just 3 to 5 years. Harvesting it doesn’t kill the plant; the root system stays alive and shoots up new culms automatically.
Earthquake Resistance: Because it is incredibly lightweight and flexible, bamboo structures can bend, sway, and absorb shockwaves during seismic events or high winds instead of snapping and collapsing like rigid concrete.
High Carbon Sequestration: Bamboo generates up to 35% more oxygen and absorbs up to four times more carbon dioxide than an equivalent stand of hardwood trees, making it a powerful tool for locking away carbon quickly.
Low Cost and Easy Transport: Being completely hollow makes bamboo light and exceptionally easy to transport, handle, and build with using basic tools—drastically lowering energy use, transport costs, and manual labor requirements on site.
