Zero Water Waste: Traditional flush toilets use roughly 25-30% of a household’s indoor water. Moving to a compost system or tree bog eliminates this entirely, saving thousands of gallons of clean drinking water every year.

Closes the Nutrient Loop: Instead of creating toxic sewage that pollutes waterways, these systems treat human waste as a resource, safely converting it into nutrient-rich humus (fertilizer) that regenerates depleted soils.

Zero Emptying Required (for Tree Bogs): A tree bog uses an elevated drop over a compost pile enclosed by a living wall of hungry, fast-growing trees (like willow). The tree roots aggressively absorb the nutrients and moisture directly from the pile, meaning you never have to empty or turn it.

Off-Grid Independence: Excellent for building self-sufficiency, as they require no connection to mains water, deep sewage pipes, or septic tanks. This makes them incredibly cheap to install and perfect for allotments, campsites, remote or rural homes.

Prevents Groundwater Pollution: Septic tanks can leak and contaminate nearby water tables. Well-managed compost toilets use carbon-rich materials (like sawdust) to bind nutrients, while tree bogs use plant uptake, safely containing and neutralising pathogens naturally.
