Water Filtration

Combining stone, sand, and biochar creates a powerful, multi-layered filtration system that cleans water naturally.

Three-Stage Ultimate Filtration: It uses a tiered system. Large stones block big debris (leaves, twigs), fine sand traps suspended particles and cloudy sediment, and the biochar handles the microscopic contaminants.

Biochar Adsorbs Toxic Chemicals: Because biochar is incredibly porous, it acts like a magnet for micro-pollutants. It actively binds to and removes heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and chemical tastes or odours that sand and stones can’t touch.

Forms a Natural Biosand Filter: Over time, a beneficial layer of microbes (called a schmutzdecke) naturally grows on top of the sand layer. This living ecosystem eats up harmful biological pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and parasites, purifying the water without chemicals.

Zero Electricity or Running Costs: The entire system runs purely on gravity. Water trickles down naturally from one layer to the next, making it an incredibly resilient, low-maintenance solution for off-grid or self-reliant properties.

Fully Renewable and Low Cost: The components are completely natural and can usually be sourced locally for next to nothing. When the biochar eventually becomes saturated after months of use, you don’t throw it out—you can mix it straight into your garden soil to boost plant growth.
